Peter Polycarpou and Sally Ann Triplett will star in new musical: Falling Stars at London’s Union Theatre this November 22nd & 29th!

Concieved and written by Polycarpou, the song cycle celebrates the composers, collaborators and publishers of the 1920’s – Charlie Chaplin, Irving Berlin and Buddy de Silva (to name but a few!) who helped the 1920’s roar

Falling Stars is the charming story of a lost songbook; hidden away in an antique shop on the East Finchley High Road, its discovery unlocks the beautiful refrains of a bygone era. The entrancing production includes the earliest songs and forgotten melodies of composers who went on to become the most famous songwriters of the century, who changed entertainment forever…

Of the new project, Polycarpou says: “Falling Stars is a collection of songs written just after another pandemic – the influenza pandemic of 1918, which killed at least 30 million people worldwide.And why did the 1920s roar like they did? Because the music of The Charleston, The Tango and The Foxtrot were an escape from the awful social nightmare of the modern world. These songs are a reminder of a time when song writing was both a craft and a blessed escape”.

Michael Strassen, who recently directed the 50th anniversary concert of Godspell (which Triplett also appeared in!) directs, with musical direction by Robert Emery, production design by Jean Grey. It’s produced by Thomas Hopkins & Michael Quinn for Ginger Quiff Media.

I think a little escapism works wonders right now, this sounds charming and will find my heart and spirit over at The Union while bodily I’m at home in Bristol. Those of you who know me well will know that I’m a huge fan of Peter’s and am absolutely thrilled he has this new venture going on amidst these uncertain times! Sally Ann entered my lockdown theatre life thanks to Godspell and I was blown away by her vocal and acting presence, I’ve no doubt these two will work their magic and create two incredibly special evenings!
