Wheelie Stagey – Life On Four Wheels: Gettin’ back to (New) Normal

Hi all, I hope you’re keeping safe & well in these strange times! I just wanted to drop by with an update for anyone interested…

Some of you will know that at the end of February, I had a staff shake up and needed to move back home while we searched for a new personal assistant to share the role of caring for me with Bobbi, whose been with me since last May, and then of course: the pandemic happened. I’m not going to lie, having to move back in with them after being in my own place since 2017 did feel like a step back in terms of my independence as a disabled person, such as that means for me. That being said, I’ve been very grateful to be back with my family during this pandemic, as my mental health has been quite up and down. Some days are better than others, but there’s been anger and tears too, most notably from missing theatre and my friends. Those days are still there, but I’m becoming better at managing the negativity, and giving myself permission to have those kind of days knowing they will pass.

Now, seven months on: I’m delighted to have found a new second PA which means I’ll be moving back home soon! I can’t wait to have my own space and re-discover my independence once more. I’m sure, Milo, my best furry pal will find it a bit strange (he’s loved having more space and people to dote on him), but I know we’ll find our feet again. Here’s to the return of my podcast, more writing/shaping my novel and adventures with a new member of my team.

  1. That sounds like wonderful news. I hope everyone continues to stay well. Rest assured you are not alone in your feelings of anger and depression and frustration and sadness. It’s hard for me to remember this is a world wide nightmare. Of course some people and some industries and professions have been hit harder than others. Broadway is still dark here, so you can imagine all of the people who are effected. Not just actors, but musicians, stage hands, ticket sellers, ushers, area restaurants and businesses etc. etc. I’m sure things are the same there. Eventually, things will come back, but waiting is hard. I’m glad that you and Milo and your parents are well. I’m sure you will keep us posted as things move forward. Please pet Milo for me….he is SO cute. I love the photos you share. Stay safe and stay well, Linda Sent from my iPad

    • Dear Linda,
As always, thankyou for getting in touch, I love seeing your name in my inbox!
It is, and a welcome return to the happiness & sense of independence my own place has given me. It will no doubt feel a bit odd after seven months back with my parents, but all of life is a bit odd right now.

It took me a long while to reconcile my feelings that way too, ie yes this is a worldwide crisis, but that we all will react in different ways sometimes & that negativity can be part of that, and that’s fine. Here’s to continued love & support in whatever form for both of us.

Yes, things are much the same here, but the industry is slowly showing sparks of hope and I, like Aaron Burr in Hamilton, am willing to wait for it 😉

Thanks, and I will of course pass on your love to young sir Milo!
As always, sending love & best wishes
      x
